For the SRHS Shark Football Coaching Staff, a winning season is not just measured by the wins and losses on the field.
The Sebastian River High School Football Team is proud to announce that twelve of eighteen members of the 2019-2020 Varsity Team; Class of 2020 have signed National Letters of Intent to continue playing football at the collegiate level.
The Sebastian Sharks finished the 2019 season with a 6-3 record and narrowly missed the State of Florida playoffs by percentage points, but for the SRHS Shark Football Coaching Staff, a winning season is not just measured by the wins and losses on the field. Seeing their players receive the opportunity to continue their education at colleges and universities around the country is a true measure of success for their football program. “We feel that our body of work speaks for itself. Twelve student-football athletes from a school population /sports population as Sebastian River High School is unheard of,” said Head Coach Tyrone Perry, “especially since we only had a thirty-eight man varsity roster before call ups of some junior varsity players. Yes, we would love to be undefeated and go to the playoffs, but seeing our players getting another opportunity to play and to sign a National Letter of Intent is a great joy for our program. To have twelve of our Class of 2020 to get that opportunity to continue speaks volumes for our program. The other six seniors will also continue on in some type of schooling, military academies, fire academies and continue their education in college.”
The SRHS Football Staff encourages community leadership of its players and is proud that some have chosen to lead in the military, as first-responders, or on the collegiate level like wide receiver/defensive back Colby Holbrook who has been honored with a four-year, full tuition “leadership” scholarship from Nova Southeastern University.
The Sebastian River High School Coaching Staff makes it a top priority each year to assist their players in pursuing their dreams of attending college, and for many of the players, the opportunity to receive a football scholarship gives them the financial assistance to continue their education. Each year, the coaching staff with the support of parents and business sponsors fundraises to purchase a team membership to HUDL, a nationally-recognized video analysis tool, to give each member of the team access to video reels that they can individually submit to prospective college football programs. “This is the way we give back to our players, working just as hard for them as they worked for us,” reflected Head Coach Perry. “We believe as a staff that our players work so hard on and off the field. So we have adopted the recruiting philosophy that we will leave no stone unturned to give them an opportunity to continue playing on the next level (college). We as coaches tackle it as a group at the football recruiting fairs, and we are the only staff with 6-8 members present because we feel that involving all the coaches gives our staff an advantage to assist our players with recruitment as they are better prepared to answer questions from players, parents, and the community.”
The SRHS Football Coaching staff congratulates the following members of the SRHS Varsity Football Class of 2020(an asterisk denotes signed NLOI to play football): Alex Baker - Florida Atlantic University; *Tyler Brown - Warner University (Florida);*Camren Clarke - Geneva College (Pennsylvania);*Jalen Collier - Kentucky Christian University; Christopher Cordner - University of Florida/United States Naval Academy;*Anthony Crowley - Benedict College (South Carolina);*Corbin Gibson - Garden City Community College (Kansas); *Terrance Hodges - Kentucky Christian University; Colby Holbrook - Nova Southeastern University (Florida); *Jourdan Jefferson - Warner University (Florida); Sebastian Lowe - IRC Fire Academy; *Tommy Roberts - Bethany College (West Virginia); *Jadrain Scurry - Garden City Community College (Kansas); *Tim Smith - University of Alabama; *Javian Tomlinson- West Virginia Wesleyan College; *Craig Walker- Kentucky Christian University; Jonathan Walther- IRC Fire Academy; Kendrick Williams- Keiser University (Florida).
